Research

The PMHS research department has been hard at work, even during the pandemic.

PMHS researchers have fulfilled research requests from the local community as well as from Toronto, Hamilton, Burlington and Oakville.

Requests have also been fulfilled from residents of British Columbia, the US, the EU and the UK.

Some of the resources in our archives:

  • Railroads

  • Schools

  • Churches

  • Genealogy Files

  • Newspaper Indexes (births, deaths, marriages and major events)

  • Cemetery Records

  • Maps

  • Registry for Paris and some of South Dumfries

  • Directories

  • Business Files

  • Telephone books (from turn of the century on)

  • Photos of Houses (a Millennium Project)

  • Census

  • Ancestry.com

  • Family Tree Maker

The Paris Museum and Historical Society is operated completely by volunteers.

We receive funding from grants, fundraising initiatives, donations and research fees.

For Research in Person

There is a $20 per visit fee to research in the museum's archives in person. A volunteer will find the files or documents you need and afterwards will re-file the items. If you wish the PMHS researchers to do the research for you, there is a $20 per hour fee. We can give you an estimate of the time required and this fee will be paid in advance. (Please note: members may research for 6 hours, free of charge.)

To optimize your research experience and guarantee availability of an experienced researcher, the research team recommends making an appointment ahead of time.
