The bell from the tower of the first Paris High School has been restored and is now being installed at its original location, now occupied by the Queensview Retirement Home. Join us for the celebration and unveiling on September 8th at 2 pm.
This site was the original location of the Paris High School from 1895, which served the community until its closure in 1923. The school bell stood as an enduring symbol of education and community life, ringing to announce the beginning of each school day and marking important occasions throughout the school’s history.
Its distinctive sound called generations of students to learn, grow, and contribute to the life of the town. Following the closure of the high school and the relocation of its students to a new facility, the bell was preserved through the efforts and foresight of Murray Taylor and his daughter Jean Cline of Paris. Recognizing its historical significance, they safeguarded this important artifact, ensuring that a tangible connection to the community’s educational heritage would be preserved for future generations.
