Volunteer Curator Team Opportunity
April 2026
Do you have a passion for history, heritage, and storytelling?
The Paris Museum & Historical Society is seeking individuals to serve on a three-person volunteer Curator Team that will bring our community’s past to life by caring for and interpreting our archival and artifact collections.
The Curator Team will be the lead stewards of our local history in Paris — preserving artifacts, managing archives, and making local history stories accessible to the public. This role is perfect for detail-oriented individuals who value preserving our community’s history.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee and grow the museum’s collection through accessioning and cataloguing.
- Care for artifacts and archives, including conservation, digitization, and storage.
- Assist exhibit teams and validate interpretive materials that captivate visitors.
- Support researchers, respond to public inquiries, and lead tours or programs.
- Build meaningful connections with donors, historians, and community partners.
What You Bring
The Curator Team should have a combination of the following qualifications:
- Strong interest in museums, history, research, or public engagement.
- Volunteer experience in museums or collection management.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, museum standards (e.g. OMA, ACEON).
- Experience using management software (e.g., PastPerfect for collection management).
- Research and writing skills.
- Experience leading volunteer teams.
- Experience contributing content to websites and social media platforms.
- Familiarity with artifact handling best practices.
This is a chance to help ensure our Paris history stories are preserved and shared for generations to come.
The PMHS will provide transitional training from the current volunteer Curator and professional training and development opportunities to the Curator Team.
